“Don't Turn Me On” is a fun, rockabilly song that is reminiscent of music from Brian Setzer. It is described as playful and tongue-in-cheek, taking a rather suggestive topic and making it less revealing while remaining catchy and memorable. It contains clever wordplays and subtle hints that are bound to provoke the thoughts. In addition, it exudes a retro, throwback vibe that allows it to resonate with both young and old.
The making of “Don’t Turn Me On”
An instant head bopper that induces the urge to break out the dancing shoes, “Don’t Turn Me On” features several of Tunedly’s finest session musicians adding their talents to the track. They include Dusty, whose standout vocals shine throughout, as well as Ian, who added a mean saxophone mix. Mella, the Project Manager, provided skilled mixing and Liesa, another singer, gave the finishing touch with awesome background vocals. Collaboration during the course of the project was smooth, allowing for the song to come together in a fun and immersive way.
About the songwriter
Neil Patrick is a songwriter who grew up, and currently lives, in Cleveland, Ohio, which is often called “the home of Rock n Roll.” He was raised on 50s and 60s Rock and Roll music, with a side of Traditional Country and Rockabilly. As his career progressed, he added some Jimmy Buffet and ELO to the mix to further diversify his musical ear and tastes.
His songs are strongly influenced by musical icons such as Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Jeff Lynne, Sam Cooke, and Dylan Buffet, just to name a few from his boatload of favorites. Neil shares that he lives by the adage: “love, laugh, dance, and make every day your BDE (best day ever).” Listen to the song of the month by Neil Patrick. « return to blog
