With its hypnotic melody, harmonious vocals, and groovy laidback tempo, the tune is easy to digest and appreciate. The making of "Summer’s On Its Way (The Lockdown Song)"

According to Adrian, the idea for "Summer’s On Its Way (The Lockdown Song)" came during the month of April 2020 at the height of the Lockdown period. "I had the tune, but the title line from the chorus came to me whilst on my statutory one short walk per day in neighbouring St John’s Wood," says Adrian, who hails from London, England.

He also jokes about being possibly influenced by the spirit of John, George, Paul, and Ringo (the Beatles) since he was walking only a few streets away from their famous Abbey Road zebra crossing. However, his epiphany really came when he realized the lyrics for the song were perfect for what was happening in the world as a result of the pandemic.

"At the point [where] I reached ‘Storm clouds have blown away’, I realised these lines were the perfect analogy for the lockdown experience and how we might emerge from it."

Excited by his new finding, Adrian set about laying the groundwork for the song, which turned out to be a friends-and-family affair. His good friend Benny de la Bedoyere, a locked-down cruise ship worker (and professional singer), was enlisted to assemble the lead vocals.

Adrian quickly sent in his demo, and the Tunedly Team instantly set about building the right instruments around it, including some really fun trumpet and clarinet parts. At the point where Mella added her background vocals, Adrian confessed that the resulting record gave him goose pimples and he soon realized the track could be worth releasing. This led him back to the drawing board for new ideas.

In the end, Adrian's wife Belinda, and daughter Alysia, were recruited to complement Mella on backing vocals. At the same time, Benny came up with the idea to shoot a video for "Summer’s On Its Way (The Lockdown Song)," which saw his girlfriend Rachel, his father Nick, and mother Barbel joining in to help make the video a reality.

All in all, everyone who worked on the song and video agreed that it was a very fun project.

About the songwriter

Adrian Fox says he has just two rules when writing songs:

i. No love songs ("but songs about love are fine.....there is a difference").

ii. Every word must mean something in the context of the song.

He also believes that music is very subjective, noting "We cannot like everything we hear, but even if you don’t, then hopefully you can respect the artistry."

In commenting on "Summer’s On Its Way (The Lockdown Song)," Adrian's hope is that everyone who views the video will appreciate the homespun vibe and message as it relates to the lockdown, especially since a good cause is involved (watch the fun video to the end to see what we mean).

Adrian also expressed gratitude for his project being chosen as the Tunedly Song of the Month and expressed his satisfaction with the whole process. "Thanks again Tunedly for helping put together something we are all very proud of," said Fox.

But at the end of the day, "Make It Happen (Thy Will Be Done)" turned out to be the clear winner. However, it wasn't just the message that got all the thumbs up. Listen to the song of the month for April 2020.

The making of "Make It Happen (Thy Will Be Done)"

The Tunedly Team received a vocal track, complete with lyrics and melody from Michael. From the first moment of listening, it became clear that the project had loads of potential and could become something really special. The theme of overcoming and seeking "better days" struck a chord with the team and a fitting arrangement, including organic drums, percussion, piano, and guitar was subsequently used to bring the track to life.

The results sparked more ideas and Michael suggested turning it into a duet. A soaring vocal performance by session singer Athena was added to the mix, as well as a mean violin piece by Holly to add further splendor. Dusty, who gushed about his love for the song, handled much of the instrumentation, as well as the finer points using his mixing and mastering skills. "I hope others are as moved by this track as I was," he said when asked about his work on the song.

About the songwriter

In relation to "Make It Happen (Thy Will Be Done)," Michael Eitelberg notes that inspiration for the song emerged while thinking about the challenges of life and how people get through them. "The song is about how faced with adversity, we dig in deep, work hard, and miracles often happen," said Michael.

That thought process is right in line with the current struggles being faced by humanity in light of the virus outbreak, and the lyrics are seemingly meant to offer a ray of hope to listeners. "During the music production process, I reflected on the impact of the pandemic and how so many people are creating miracles in the work that they do and how we also rely on faith to help us get through hard times and loss."

The songwriter also made mention of how much he enjoys making music with the Tunedly Team. When asked about his new song, he noted that "One of my greatest joys in life is working with Dusty and the talented team at Tunedly and being part of a process that starts with a melody and lyrics then turns into a fully produced song."

A second-time Tunedly Song of the Month winner, Michael Eitelberg takes a lot of pride in his work ethic. In just the past two years, he has penned more than 25 songs. The quality of his songs speak volumes as well - six of his creations are currently being plugged by Tunedly.

The making of "Dance With Me"

Paul Hinam notes that he wrote the song over four years ago during the early stages of a relationship and has been working at it with Tunedly for a significant amount of that time. Headed by Project Manager Dusty, the Tunedly Team set about rebuilding the song from the ground up. With the tracks for piano, horns, and strings provided by Paul, bass, drums, and acoustic guitar were added to help bring out the fullness of the sound and make it even more captivating. A few tweaks later, followed by expert mixing and mastering, the new and improved version was ready to go. Dusty and team all agreed that remaking "Dance With Me" was among the most fun projects they had worked on and were extra-pleased with the results.

Once the lyrics were presented by David, the team set about finding the right way to compose the music in a way that would increase its potency. Written by Neil Patrick, who is truly showing his talent with his third Tunedly Song of the Month, the song oozes more than just a bit of extra magic. The making of "Way Up North"

As mentioned, "Way Up North" represents the third time a song by Neil Patrick has been voted as the Tunedly Song of the Month. But whereas his former tracks were fun, rock and roll, and party-esque, this new song is all about bringing back Christmas memories in a fun and musical way.

Neil said he wrote the song from as far back as the 1980s when he was in college, but never shared it with anyone as he could not get it recorded to his satisfaction. "I had it recorded again just before I found Tunedly, but was so disappointed with the final product I put it in a drawer for another day," he pointed out.

After a recent bout of vertigo which saw the prolific songwriter putting down his pen for four months, he was going through some of his older stuff and came across the song. That's when he thought about about getting it recorded with Tunedly. "[I] knew you guys could do it justice...and I couldn't be happier about it today! If I hadn't found Tunedly, I would probably never have re-recorded this song."

According to Dusty, who acted as Project Manager, the demo submitted by Neil instantly brought the Christmas vibes and made it an easy and fun recording for the team. Using guitars to build the rhythm section, special effort was made to create a sound scheme that featured modern dynamics as well as fused with traditional themes. Piano and sax were also brouht in by musicians Chris and Ian to give it a fun, lighthearted undertone, which complemented Caleb's strong vocals.

With mixing and mastering duties left up to Dusty and Mike respectively, the polished song was ready to go in no time. As always, all the musicians were proud of their input and believe "Way Up North" has the capacity to appeal to both young and old audiences looking for new Christmas music.

About the songwriter

Neil Patrick is a songwriter who grew up, and currently lives, in Cleveland, Ohio, which is often called “the home of Rock n Roll.” He was raised on 50s and 60s Rock and Roll music, with a side of Traditional Country and Rockabilly. As his career progressed, he added some Jimmy Buffet and ELO to the mix to further diversify his musical ear and tastes.

His songs are strongly influenced by musical icons such as Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Jeff Lynne, Sam Cooke, Dylan, and Buffet, just to name a few from his boatload of favorites. Neil shares that he lives by the adage: “love, laugh, dance, and make every day your BDE (best day ever).”

Tunedly Song of the Month - September 2019

It has already been a year since we launched the Tunedly Song of the Month series (whew, time flies!), and the songs keep getting better. Proof of that can be heard in the latest song of the month, "Hold Onto Winter."

Written by long-time songwriter Eric L. Eckelman, the song possesses a soulful, retro aura that pulls in the listener for reflection on past loves. But that's just one feature of the song that made it a top candidate for our song of the month.

As we always say, only masterpieces are created at Tunedly, but those that stand out project that extra bit of magic. For "Hold Onto Winter," that bit of magic manifests in a number of ways, as far as sonic appeal and thoughtfulness are concerned.

Sign in now to listen to the song of the month for September 2019.

The making of "Hold Onto Winter"

Eric Eckelman notes that "Hold Onto Winter" was written many years ago as an introspective piece of poetry. He describes the lyrics as a conversation about lost love between two good friends. That said, the story was brought to life through some inspiring instrumental work and vocals by the Tunedly Team.

It includes a simple but potent piano and vocal frame created by Bobby. Dusty filled out the rhythm section and harmonies with drums and bass, while Camille further enriched the track with some lovely background harmonies. The resulting polished mix is a groovy, slightly haunting, soulful tune that is not easy to forget.

That might have been the intention of Eckelman, who names the Beatles as his primary musical inspiration while growing up, due to their creative wordplay and ability to transcend music styles and genres. He points out that songs are like photographs in the way they capture moments, feelings, or sensibilities, in order to make a permanent statement. As such, he describes "Hold Onto Winter" as "a moment in time, captured in a beautiful, often poetic and meaningful way."

About the songwriter

Eric Eckelman grew up in Muncie, Indiana, where he started writing songs at the age of 15. His initial foray into the songwriting world saw him penning over 100 songs that he captured on an old cassette recorder. He has written many other songs since then, but his love for writing also led to the creation of books. To date, Eckelman has seen over 25 of his novels published, ranging in genre from history to mystery, and even sports.

In describing his songwriting process, Eckelman does not believe in following a particular format, preferring the inspiration to come naturally. "The best songs for me are beautiful musically, interesting lyrically and meaningful. I write in whatever format or genre or lyrical content that strikes me at the time. The creative process for me is most of the enjoyment - going from nothing to something beautiful. Working it out to get it perfect on paper or on digital is less meaningful - same was true with my novels," says Eckelman.

"The idea of a song not being there and then it's there amazes me ... where it comes from I'm not sure ... I never wanted to learn too much about it, preferring to let whatever comes, and from wherever it comes, arrive naturally without any particular rules of the trade or restrictions."

Tunedly Song of the Month - July 2019

A song with the title "Charlatan Angels" is bound to be one that piques the interest of any listener. And the track, which is Tunedly's Song Of The Month for July, does not disappoint.

Written by Adrian Fox, the song is, to begin with, fun and thoughtful at the same time. But that's the least of what's special about it. The extra bit of magic that resulted in it being chosen as the song of the month lies in the arrangement, instrumentation, and a bit of special effects. The post-Britpop style of the track consists of jangly guitars and a soaring melody. Yes, we only produce masterpieces at Tunedly, and this mix took things up a notch.

Sign in now to listen to the song of the month for July 2019.

The making of "Charlatan Angels"

According to the songwriter, the melody for "Charlatan Angels" was written in an unusual way compared to how he normally composes. It came to him while watching a Rugby Union match between England and South Africa. Interestingly, the song is a commentary on the investment banking industry and more specifically the financial crash. But Fox points out that lyrics can be interpreted to mean whatever you want.

"It is one of those I had written a while ago but put away in the ‘drawer’ to pull out and re-work another time," he stated, before adding "Dusty excelled himself on this project, going beyond the initial instructions to add instrumentation that was not in the brief. In this way he and the team really brought the song to life, and added the FX I like a lot."

Once Fox sent his demo to the Tunedly team, it became instantly clear that "Charlatan Angels" was going to be a standout tune. To perfect the sound, a number of instruments were thrown into the mix to include drums, bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, trumpet, and viola. The addition of Dusty's vocals and a bit of special effects completed the overall melodic sound.

The band performance, which also included musicians Gergo and Marco, reflected an overall great vibe in creating the song. All involved agreed that they had a lot of fun in bringing it to life.

In commenting on "Charlatan Angels," Fox says "I hope you like the song. When I first started to write (inspired by Springsteen’s ‘Tracks’) my limited ambition was to write one song that was liked by just one person."

He also expressed gratitude for his project being chosen as the Tunedly Song of the Month. "It is a great honor to be selected," said Fox.

"I would like to take the opportunity of thanking everyone at Tunedly for all their help on my projects, you have all been an amazing support and the experience has been incredibly uplifting."

Tunedly Song of the Month - May 2019

If you're into songs that master the art of storytelling, then you will love the Tunedly Song of the Month for May 2019. It's called "Leave the Weed to Willie," a track that is bursting with clever lyrics from the mind of songwriter Richard "Rich" Bonnin.

Bonnin is no stranger to the Tunedly Team, having previously recorded several songs with Tunedly musicians. In fact, he has found publishing success with at least one of his Tunedly-produced songs.

"Leave the Weed to Willie" gives a detailed account of how a man decides to give a helping hand in order to get a disabled bus back on the road. As it turns out, the bus belongs to acclaimed musician Willie Nelson, and as the song continues, the good samaritan is invited to get on the bus. Needless to say, he soon realizes that it's probably best to "leave the weed to Willie." It isn't hard to figure out what that really means considering the smart song references that are included.

As we always say, only masterpieces are created at Tunedly. But some songs manage to ooze that extra bit of magic which sets them apart. "Leave the Weed to Willie" managed to do just that. It manages to be a rather fun, well-written tune, which expertly fuses a traditional vibe with the Red Dirt Country sound that is currently popular. Tunedly musicians who worked on bringing the song to life all agree that it's a fun song that has the ability to be a great live sing-along song.

With vocals from session singer Ashley and Dusty, the song came together in a rather harmonious way, similar to the final overall tone of the recording. "I think we're all pretty proud of it! Tunedly Song of the Month for February 2019

The making of "Big Brother"

David was very specific in describing the sort of sound he was looking for when he sent in his lyrics to the Tunedly Team. Still, the song sparked a lot of ideas. At the end of the day, the team, which included Dusty on all the instruments and Andy providing the vocals, decided to go for a sound that was familiar and poppy while at the same time being unsettling and ominous. “Secret Santa Claus” is described as an upbeat, playful holiday tune with a retro-modern vibe. It exudes the timelessness of 60s Christmas songs while flirting with the flair and swagger present in many of today's head boppers. It’s time again for Tunedly’s Song of the Month feature where we highlight one special tune from among each month’s completed projects.

At Tunedly, we only create masterpieces but some songs manage to ooze that extra bit of magic, which allows them to shine just a little brighter than their counterparts. The Song of the Month for October is “Know You,” produced by Mark Lassiter and written by his son William Lassiter III (more on William later). The song was among several nominated by Tunedly Project Managers and received the highest overall votes.

“Know You” is an upbeat tune, done in the style of a Jason Mraz vibe. It is described as a funky song with a catchy hook and unexpected tempo changes the listener will appreciate. A song you can sing along with and add to your road trip playlist, it contains clean, well thought out lyrics that anyone can relate to.

The making of “Know You”

While sounding rather simple and to the point, a lot went into making “Know You” a stellar track. According to Mella, who helped mix the track, there were a few hiccups during the production of the song due to its tempo changes. However, she noted that the team, which included some of Tunedly’s top session musicians – including Dusty on guitar, as well as a drummer, percussionist, and upright bass player – managed to bring it home.

“I'm so proud of our incredible musicians and how they all worked together and were willing to do whatever it takes to create a great song,” she noted.

About the songwriter

Mark Lassiter credits "Know You" to his 18-year-old son, William Lassiter III. According to Mark, the younger Lassiter wrote it last year but has been writing songs since he was 14 and even did an EP with former Third Eye Blind guitarist, Kevin Cadogan. William lives in Manhattan and currently attends the Institute for American Musical Theater in Harlem. His first project, called III (from his name) is currently available on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

Mark, who is a musician in his own right, says "Know You" is the first song he and his son have collaborated on and praises Wiliam's writing skills. "All of the big puzzle pieces and production ideas are fleshed out in his cell phone demos. I just get to come in and hang production ideas on a solid song structure," said Mark.

Mark says William's songs are strongly influenced by 90's Rock, as well as musical icons such as Collective Soul, Third Eye Blind, Panic! at the Disco, and Jason Mraz. He also pointed out that William's goal is to be on Broadway while continuing to pursue songwriting. Here's William's Instagram page if you want to know more about him and his music.
